Our orthodontist, Dr. Daniel Adams can traditional braces to correct a bad bite, overcrowding issues, or general deviations in the alignment of your teeth. This system relies on regular adjustment appointment to tighten the orthodontics.

The progressive tension applied to your braces will gradually alter the position of your teeth in your gums. This is done in every four to six weeks to create a gradual change in the alignment of your teeth. Once your ideal alignment has been attained the doctor will remove your braces, but this is not the end of the process.

Even after the braces have been completely removed, your teeth and jaw ligaments still need time to adjust to their new positions. To make sure that they don’t drift out of positions, your doctor will give you a retainer. Hawley retainers are most common option for preserving the alignment of your teeth. This retainer is made of acrylic and will be designed to comfortably conform to the unique shape of your mouth. It incorporates metal orthodontic components that hold your teeth in place. The doctor may decide to use a fixed retainer, which is cemented behind your teeth.

If you live in Carlsbad, California, and you have questions about retainers, you can always call 760.804.0080 and talk with a staff member at Full Smile Orthodontics.
